Rain makes some people craaazy!
Hello everyone! This is my token "Hi, I'm the newbie and this is my first entry" entry, so please bear with me.
I've been enjoying the recent downpours we've had lately - call it Hilo nostalgia - but I was wondering if anyone has seen any interesting sights as a result of the rain. Of note I've seen Manoa stream turn into a river, the curb in front of Marco Polo disappear, and one spun-out truck. However, today was the best one so far.
In front of Kyoya this afternoon, a father and daughter were hanging about on the sidewalk and appeared to be dancing in the rain. Upon closer inspection, they were holding a sign that said, "SPLASH ME!" It didn't take long for one driver to comply, which prompted the pair to explode into triumphant jumping with their hands in the air. I wish a news crew had been nearby. Those two deserved to be on television.
Witnessed any rain-induced madness or events?

Hi and Welcome!
Today I drove past construction crews and police by a down utility pole (or it could have been a light pole) and an SUV spun out and against the zipper lane blocks.
Nothing much else really. The veil of rain just made it hard to see anything in general. Thank the gods I'm home safe now from a full day out and abouts.

Aloha from Maui!
We sure had our share of rain here. Today is the first day of NO RAIN in Lahaina. If you would like to see what it's like go here http://www.paradisemaui.com and click on the Maui Cam.

My girlfriend and I made the mistake of going to Waikiki Beach on Saturday, the day after the rain stopped and the sun finally came out. The beach was packed with people, tourists all waiting for the sunshine that they came for. But when we approached the water we found it to be all mucky and yucky. I guess that happens after a BIG rain.

You may have seen my father's little Aina Haina lane on the news, where the manholes started bubbling and ultimately sewage started to flow in vast quantities. It sure made him crazy, but not in the mirthful way as the fun folks in Jen's story.
I personally didn't see anything half as entertaining. Although the ridiculous 'traffic calming' circle near our apartment in Makiki looked more like an island in a stream on Friday night.

Well, sure, it's fun for yuks to drive around, and it was a decent idea for that intersection... but I've also written about how clearly it was a political stunt, how stupid it turned out to be (it's so small and badly placed, city buses have to drive over it every time), and even called it "ridiculous" in the newspaper.

Well, it was certainly silly but totally involuntary. I was trying to wade across a raging river which filled a gutter and one of my slippers got knocked off, quickly sailed on down and disappeared in a storm drain.
So I hobbled through Ala Moana to Long's to buy a new pair. So far as I saw, no one even noticed but there's no doubt I felt quite silly.
