Hawaii's Best: Local Locations
I'm not giving up yet on my idea for a HawaiiStories awards, but until we get back into our groove here, let's talk about the Star-Bulletin's Readers' Poll, which is taking submissions until April 26. The poll is split into topics, so I'll start a thread for each topic.
So let's hear what you have to say about:
The best

Best Place to watch the Sunset: Kewalos.
Beach Park: Kewalos Park. Granted, it's not as popular as some other parks, but it has a nice area for family picnics, adjoining tables, clean bathrooms, showers, grass, parking, and close to the water.
Best Lookout: Pali. The combination of the Koolau Range and Windward coast can't be beat.
Picnic Place: To avoid sounding redundant, I'll say Ala Moana Beach Park.
Place to Surf: Sunset Beach.
Hiking Place: Stairway to Heaven.
Surf Spot: Waimea Bay
Vacation Destination: Vegas. But locally, I would say Big Island.
Most Romantic Place: My house (just kidding!) I would say Waikiki Beach at night. It's clean, quiet, and generally safe to walk hand in hand in the sand.

place to watch the sunset
- I usually watch these from either Ala Moana Park/Magic Island or Kakaako Waterfront Park.
beach park
- none really, most beaches are either too crowded or spilled over with sewage..
lookout
- Any place that offers a high vantage point with a good view.... Tantalus, Pali Lookout....
picnic place
- away from anywhere crowded.
place to surf
- The only place where I surf regularly is at home on my G4 Power Mac.
hiking place
- from my building to my car and back.
surf spot - Currently my Power Mac G4.
vacation destination - Big Island of Hawaii, Honokaa.

Hey, I thought this was a "Best in Hawaii", not best on Oahu poll. You guys
are all so townie...
Best Sunset: beach behind the Maui Sunset in Kihei.
Beach Park: Big Beach in Makena.
Lookout: Top of the mountain after you do the Stairway to Heaven hike.
Picnic Place: That's tough, there's a lot of places. Gotta go with Kamaole 3
beach park in Kihei.
Place to surf: Depends what you mean by best? Biggest waves? Least amount of
fools trying to drop in on you? Consistency? I'm going to go with the last
place I sponged right off of Turtle Bay.
Hiking Place: Twin Falls on Maui is a short little hike with lots of
waterfalls. My kind of hike.
Surf Spot?: And this is different from the other category how? Whatever,
I'll go back to Maui on this one. Maalaea for the world's fastest wave.
Vacation destination: The island of Boracay in the Philipines. You guys have
to check it out.
Most Romantic Place: Mama's Fish House on Maui. I shall say no more.

place to watch the sunset Ala Moana Park
beach park - tough one. Probably Kailua or 'Nalo.
lookout - Tantalus
picnic place - Kapiolani Park
place to surf - at work when da luna no watch...;-)
hiking place - Makapuu
surf spot - I don't surf but maybe Haleiwa?
vacation destination - Kathmandu!!!(just gotta stay clear of the Maoists...)
This question is kinda unclear. If it means someplace in Hawai'i, I would say Big Island(for the same reason as K'du-the mountains!).
and finally in this section, the
most romantic place - Waikiki Beach - get plenny memories...;-)
